On October 21, 1976, the Sixers made their most storied move in franchise history by purchasing the contract of Julius Erving from the New York Nets. Doc teamed up with George McGinnis to lead the 76ers to a 53-30 record and the Atlantic Division title. In the spring of 1963, Irv Kosloff and Ike Richman purchased the Syracuse Nationals. The team was renamed the 76ers and Dolph Schayes became the first coach for the 1963-64 season. On January 15, 1965, the club acquired Wilt Chamberlain from the San Francisco Warriors for three players and cash. The Sixers began to make history! By July of 1968, the Sixers had won an NBA championship(1966-67) and traded Wilt to the Lakers for three player and no cash!
