This authentic jersey will have the number 6 on it. This is the number worn by Bill Russell with the 1962-63 Boston Celtics. Please note: the player's name is not on the jersey. If a player's value is measured by the number of championships he helps his team win, then Bill Russell must be considered the greatest player in the history of basketball. In the process of leading the Boston Celtics to eleven world championships in thirteen years, he completely revolutionized professional basketball with his tencious and intimidating defense. Although Russell is remembered most for his defense and championships, he led the league in rebounding four times and garnered five most valuable player awards. Quality Construction

This jersey is made of polyester and has thin green trim at the neck and sleeves. It has "Celtics" sewn on the front in green twill block letters. The player's number is sewn on the front and back in green twill. June 6, 1946, marked the birth of the Boston Celtics. Club owner, Walter Brown, named the team "Celtics" from the old "Original Celtics" in New York (1914-40). Arnold "Red" Auerbach was hired by Brown to coach the team for the 1950-51 season. When the Chicago Stags folded, its three guards names were put in a hat. Auerbach picked Bob Cousy's name out of the hat. In 1950, the Celtics chose Chuck Cooper of Duquesne as the first-African-American draft choice in the NBA. Brown and Auerbach selected Bill Russell out of the University of San Francisco in the 1956 draft and thus began a legacy in basketball never to be duplicated. In their inaugural season, the Boston Celtics finished 22-38.
