In 1963, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the National League Pennant by holding a six game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers were led by Sandy Koufax, a southpaw pitcher from the Brooklyn borough of New York. He lead the National League in strikeouts (306) and wins (25), winning the first of three consecutive Cy Young Awards.
