While doing research for a biography on Bobby Jones, Martin Davis, author of Bobby Jones: The Greatest of Them All, was granted access to Bobby's files and memorabilia at a law firm in Atlanta. As he pored through boxes of assorted records and photographs he came across a small black box containing approximately 100 photographs of Bobby Jones, demonstrating all the fundamentals of golf, step-by-step. Members on the back of the photographs were keyed to a stack of yellow legal-pad pages filled with meticulous instructions handwritten by Jones himself. This material, combined with commentary by Ben Crenshaw makes this landmark book a treasure that, until now, golfers could only wish for... Classic Instruction offers precise close-ups of the swings, stances, and grips that took Jones to unprecedented victories during the 1920's, before the modern sand wedge had even been invented. Jones played competitively more than 75 years ago, yet every detail is just as appropriate today as ever. With photographs of Crenshaw and his commentary interspersed throughout, this book offers a unique look at the masters. In some cases Jones and Creshaw employ different approaches, especially in their putting. Both men are considered to be two of the finest putter who ever lived.
