The Miami Beach Flamingos were managed by John "Pepper" Martin (#1), who was a member of the Gas House Gang-era St. Louis Cardinals. He began his managerial career in 1940, after retiring as an active player, but in 1944 the Minor League Baseball Cardinals persuaded him to return to the team and as a 40-year old, he hit a respectable .279.
