The name Baltimore Orioles for professional Minor League Baseball ballclubs in Baltimore goes back to the late 1800's. From 1903 to 1953, the Orioles were one of the leading powers of the International League, winning seven consecutive pennants beginning in 1919 under the guidance of Jack Dunn. It was also Dunn who gave local boy George Herman Ruth his start in professional baseball. Rogers "The Rajah" Hornsby managed the club in 1938.
